Pier 59 Studio
Today we were on the scene learning about how Pier 59 Studio is set up and how it is used. The area is used for production of large-scale photography and video projects, including commercials and advertisements for many different groups. People come in and use the studios to their will based on what their goal is at the end of the day. They are able to manipulate the resources around them but all of this comes with a price. When more than one group wants to rent out the same area, there is a bit of conflict that is resolved through someone offering the highest amount of money. Whoever bids the highest gets to use the area.
The area is rented out to the people for only 9 hours a day, but if they are doing anything after that then it will cost them more. They are paying a lot of money to rent out the areas and if they need equipment and other types of resources then it will cost even more.
There are different departments that manage different aspects of production at Pier 59. Each department is isolated from the others, and as a result the entire project wouldn’t function properly without someone who manages communication between these areas and is the chain that keeps the project together.
As a result of this experience, I learned that money talks a lot in this world and if you don’t have enough in a certain situation, than you can’t get what you want.
