The Final Day….. Party!!!!!!!
July 30, 2009
This summer has been completely awesome for all of us YI Summer Intensive kids! We topped it off perfectly with food, music, and print-making the very last day of the program. If there’s anything we know, it’s how to P-A-R-T-Y!!!
We had plenty of pizza, five pies to be exact, cut into perfect slices that made it available for me to have as much as I wanted without feeling guilty, hehe! There were berries full of berries and the best organic “lemonnada” ever. Unfortunately there were no “Tacos for Paco” as several of us campaigned for, a campaign I personally started, though Gillian totally made up for it ten times over with what she took so much effort to put together and lay out on the food table.
The printing, or stamping, was so much incredible fun. Each one of us, including Danielle, Gillian, and the new museum volunteer, Barbra, created our own symbol of which we sketched and proceeded to carve out into a hand-sized rubber template. Then, once the endless and rough elbow bending rubber chizzling was done, we all rolled black paint/ink onto our rubber blocks and continued to add our stamp to at least twenty posters in the goals of creating a collaboration piece for each one of us.
Things were messy and smock dancing was involved, but the final products were amazingly beautiful works of art! The best of it was that all of the art came from all of us, a collaboration of who we are and what we believe represents us.
The music was off the hook, and as Jairo says, “dope.” We had some oldies, the beloved Michael Jackson, Owl City (which Jacob especially loved), as well as other beats and tunes, including the reknown “Almost Paradise,” added vocals by Crystal, Shaniece, and yours truly.
The best had come to an end with the most delicious cupcakes from the Magnolia Bakery. OMG!! These cupcakes were no joke, wonders of vanilla and chocolate as well as sensations of red velvete.
This was truly a most amazing summer any one of us could have probably ever imagined with field trips of both behind-the-scenes and center stage. We got to know the ins and outs of certain places, as well as even participate ourselves whether it be holding and taking shots with a $45,000 camera or practicing flying on a rotating gymnastic mat.
Thanks so much Danielle and Gillian!!!!!!
This was the best way to spend the summer, and the best party to top off the experiences, new found friendships, and overall wonderful fun!
